Leawo MKV Converter is a commercial video converter. This is perhaps the best MKV converter that I have tried, and I have tried quite a few. The app, at only $25, comes with almost every feature that you would need from an app like this: it has a nice video editor that lets you crop and trim your videos and adjust their brightness, saturation, contrast and to boost the volume; it shows a real-time preview of how the changes you make affect the quality of the video. The app also has GPU acceleration; it is only available if you own a Nvidia Cuda GPU.
Unlike other similar converters, Leawo MKV Converter doesn't restrict input files to MKV files. You can open any popular video format, including AVI, MP4, MOV, FLV, 3GP, etc. Output format support is also very good. Graphically, the user interface has a very simple look, with a nice color scheme and every feature is well located.
In my testing, I opened an MKV file and converted it into one of the HD H.264 MOV profiles. The process took less than 5 minutes for a 2-minute clip, which is acceptable. I didn't have an Nvidia CUDA GPU, so I couldn't test acceleration. The resulting file played great in QuickTime. It looked just as good as the original MKV file.
If there is one thing that this app is missing, it is support for subtitles.
- Nice feature set
- It works well
- Nice interface
- GPU acceleration
- No subtitle support
